New article: Don’t share something without crediting its creative authorship
“If you can’t find the source, don’t share it.” —Austin Kleon
I’ve written a new article on my blog: “Don’t share something without crediting its creative authorship”.
In this article, I explain the reasoning behind Austin Kleon’s advice — “If you can’t find the source, don’t share it.”1 — and why crediting other people’s creative authorship is a fundamental step in creating value in creative work.
For some time now, I’ve been thinking about how to create my own product or service. It’s a complicated process for several reasons, but one thing that kept me stuck was the feeling that I might be plagiarizing others. That’s why I decided to dig deeper into the idea of creative authorship: how to create while building upon others’ work without falling into plagiarism. In this regard, Austin Kleon is one of my favorite sources on how to do creative work, so I started following the thread of his advice to explore these ideas further.
